Introduction from the author:
Hello everyone:
I am the non-famous edc designer and mastermind Dongjun.
Originally planned to launch a new product every month, but the new structure always needs to be debugged and improved again and again.
After a series of twists and turns, the third product of Tiangong Maker - the ratchet linkage gyro - [Sky Hub], is finally ready to meet you all.
The appearance of the Sky Hub is inspired by the Pilot Space Station in "Wandering Earth", which means "hub in the sky".
It has a multi-layered circular appearance with sci-fi style details.
The pair of locks is a variation of the radiation marking, and the inner texture design can be seen in the skeletonized part.
The scale of the ratchet simulates the knob of a safe, and the play and feel of the ratchet corresponds to the knob.
The main body is heavily hollowed out, and the "π" shaped outer edges are carefully chamfered for a rigid style that won't pinch. 12 tritium slots are designed for tritium lovers.
Structural Design
There are various kinds of ratchet construction, but using gears and pawls to link the gyro in such a way that no one has ever done before is another brand new attempt.
To be on the safe side, in terms of ratcheting, the Sky Hub adopts a structure similar to the yedc pig coin.
Pig Coin is a market-tested ratchet coin with a very mature play structure.
The ratchet linkage of the sky hub can be said to be born by stepping on the shoulders of giants.
Of course, the structure of the ratchet part has already secured the authorization of Mr. Zhu of yedc and Mr. Yuan, and we would like to thank our predecessors for their promotion and support.
On the other side of the main body of the Sky Hub, there are 6 bead slots, which also serve as weight reduction slots. It can be put into 4~5mm beads, which transforms it into a traditional bead linkage gyro. (Larger shipments will change the round slots to curved slots, which allow the beads to make a thumping sound when rotated vertically.)
It's worth noting that the Sky Hub's ratchet linkage and bead linkage can each exist on their own, or both can coexist. Wouldn't it be great to feel the pleasant sound of the beads rolling and crashing at the same time as dialing the ratchet and experiencing a clear sense of passage?
Another great advantage of the mechanical structure is the DIY nature. By replacing the springs with different strengths, you can debug a variety of different feel.
